Tacita Dean's "Antigone" is a 1-hour-long 35mm anamorphic film created in 2018. The title of this work combines the artist's personal history with the mythological world order: Antigone is the protagonist in the classical Greek tragedy by Sophocles, and it is also the name of Tacita Dean's sister.
The leitmotif of the work is "blindness." It delves into fundamental questions of foresight and destiny, what is seen and what is not, and the metaphorical blindness as an allegory for artistic work. Dean used delicate techniques such as stencils and multiple exposures inside the camera to assemble the film images. This book documents the process of creating this analog film and includes the transcript.
